The Most Annoying Situations When Buying Groceries : The Grocery Game Challenge 2016 #1 Apr 4-10

THE MOST ANNOYING SITUATIONSWHEN BUYING GROCERIES(1)

SURVEY SAYS…GROCERY SHOPPING FAILS   Buying groceries is a must for just about everyone so unless you have your groceries delivered or rely on a personal shopper you are in charge of the shopping cart. As someone who doesn’t mind buying groceries from a few competitive stores in our area I notice a difference between grocery chains and when it comes to customers we all fail at something on my grocery shopping annoyance list below. Luckily when buying groceries many of us have the option of where we want to shop but for those of you who may live in a small town or who are without transportation or limited transportation you may have select stores to give your business too. Sometimes we have to take the good with the bad when buying groceries because funds are limited and honestly no one store is perfect and never will be. What we can change is the way we are as customers and voice our concerns so the grocery chains and even small indpendent grocery stores hear what the customers need. I’m not that guy who will fill out a customer survey right now because I’m swamped with work but I have […]

7 Expensive Grocery Shopping Habits You Should Stop! : The Grocery Game Challenge #4 Nov 23-29, 2015

7 expensive grocery shopping habits you should stop

DON’T FALL INTO THESE MONEY TRAPS   If you are spending too much money on groceries you likely display one or more of the seven grocery shopping habits I’m going to discuss today. This past weekend my wife and I were shopping at Zehrs where we always find great grocery deals up to 50% off that compliment our grocery budget. We also like the quality of food that we find compared to other grocery stores but we certainly aren’t grocery snobs by any means. We shop where the savings are. Although not everyone jumps with enthusiasm when they see 50% off reduced stickers we both questioned just how much our grocery bill would be if they weren’t reduced. Realistically these reduced deals we find could disappear altogether one day where we are left with only flyer sales and coupon deals. We’d possibly see an increase in our overall grocery spending which means we’d have to re-evaluate our grocery budget or find other ways to keep expenses low. For the most part I think we would be fine as we are savvy shoppers, but ask yourself one question- Can we afford it? The biggest concern for us is our overall savings […]

3 Ways You Can Have A Food Shopping List With Variety And Save Money : The Grocery Game Challenge #3 Nov 16-22, 2015

3 WAYS YOU CAN HAVE A FOOD SHOPPING LIST WITH VARIETY (1)

FOOD DOESN’T HAVE TO BE BORING   Having the same weekly food shopping list when we grocery shop is a part of our past. We’ve learned that we really don’t like eating olives every day if we don’t have to. These days we have plenty of variety in our diet and we owe it all to our grocery budget and a few other motivations that everyone should be aware of. I think most people buy the same foods out of habit because there’s no method to the madness of consistency in the kitchen especially if you have a busy schedule. Last week fellow personal finance blogger at Budget Blonde Catherine who is an amazing saver left the comment below on my blog post. Her words had me wondering if others create the same food shopping list every week because it’s cheaper on the grocery budget. I also considered that some people may want the same foods each week because they have recipes in mind that they’ve done over and over which saves time and in their opinion, money. I love to have some variety in my diet, but I’ve found that the more variety I seek the more money I […]

Why some people hate the grocery store: The Grocery game challenge #4 Apr 21-27, 2014

coupons Canada apr 2014

SHOPPING IS NOT FOR EVERYONE   I could teach you 10 ways to save money buying food but if you hate the grocery store there is nothing that I can say that will convince you to spend more time planning your shops. Grocery shopping is one household task that some people cringe at having to do. I always seem to write about the positive side about grocery shopping but what about those people who hate the grocery store and would rather be doing something else. Sure, grocery shopping isn’t my idea of fun but at the same time when it comes to our finances we both take pride in making sure we are spending according to our budget. Today I’m going to talk a bit about those grocery haters and if you’re one of them leave a comment and tell us why you hate the grocery store and what you’d rather be doing.   Hate the grocery store   I know most men will be the first to admit that they hate the grocery store because it’s just too boring and not their thing. I can understand that because many men might not have went grocery shopping with their family […]

The Grocery Game Challenge Oct 21-27, 2013 #3: Buying when there is a product limit

october-coupons-canada

A Limit Means A Limit For A Reason   When grocery shopping on a budget and you scour the giant weekly ad flyers that come in the mail you are always searching for the best product prices on everyday items you use in your pantry. If you are a player of the grocery game here at Yeassaey you know sticking to your grocery budget is imperative to meet your monthly and yearly goals but factoring in some amazing weekly deals is also something to be considered when creating your grocery budget. It’s essential to make sure that you are stocked up so you can create healthy meals for yourself or your family and of course the grocery savings are imperative especially when you want to stick to your grocery budget.   Product limits   When big sales happen for various grocery stores estimating limits for products is a game they have to play otherwise they may run out of product for the customers. The grocery store doesn’t want to overstock a product in which case they may be stuck with it if it doesn’t sell or potentially have a return if that is allowed. I can only assume […]

The Grocery Game Challenge March 5-March 11/Week 2

This is our weekly grocery shop for March 5- March 11. What was your weekly shop like? Post it in the comment section of this post and you could win a monthly prize of $50 in various Canadian coupons~ see rules and regulations here. We had this weeks shop planned and knew we would spend more than the $64 a week we have budgeted for on groceries. With the Shoppers Drug Mart Spend $75 get 18,500 Optimum Points we were already over budget. A fan asked what we do when we overspend at the grocery store in our weekly budget. This week was a good example and below was my answer to her. So far we have spent a total of $114.91 which is $50.91 over budget this week and we are still not done shopping. When we spend over budget one week this means we have less to spend in the following weeks. In this case we have $75.09 left to spend for the month $190.00-$114.91. We don’t want to spend more than the $190.00 a month. We will see what happens. We hit up a few stores for our shopping this week Shoppers Drug Mart, Food Basics and […]

Can we stick to the Grocery Budget February 2012 Week 2?

We did pretty good last week considering it was our first week playing our Grocery Game. The Grocery Game is something we play to bring down the total out of pocket in our monthly Grocery Budget. We challenge ourselves to stick to a budget without giving in to temptation, although temptation sometimes gets the best of us. The tough part is figuring out which week will be our no shop week. One week out of every month we are going to be staying home and doing ZERO shopping. This could prove difficult for us but this is what the challenge is all about. Perhaps I will have to come up with a solution for instance maybe not opening the grocery flyers and tossing them to the bin. I don’t know, that sounds pretty harsh if you ask me. Who know’s what deals we could miss. Well this weeks shop is fairly straight forward; Budget $64.26 Zehrs We wandered around the store but didn’t find anything so we left empty-handed. The store is up the road from our house so we pop in every once in a while to see if there are any 50% off pink stickers. If you shop at […]

Can we stick to the Grocery Budget? February 2012- Week 1

February is here and it’s time to put together our weekly grocery challenge. What we hope to accomplish is to stick to our budget as best we can. This year we are challenging ourselves to shop only 3 weeks out of the month to save money. Granted there are weeks where we find exceptional deals and buy in bulk but hopefully blogging about it will help keep us under control. We don’t often purchase anything at regular price so you are safe to assume it was on sale or reduced in price. Grocery Budget=$192.78/3= $64.26 a week to spend on groceries! It’s possible we may go over budget with the Shoppers Drug Mart Bonus event and a couple of great shopping deals but let’s see how well we make out. Week of February 1st Grocery List: Shoppers Drugmart Spend $50.00 get 8000 Shoppers Optimum points January 30-February 3, 2012. Multibionita x4 1 FPC Tampax 1 FPC Alberto Neilson Cream x1 Cafe Inspirations x1 Total after coupons and tax= $16.70 plus we made 8510 Optimum Points worth just over $10.00 on regular redemption day.
